Gel coating resin | What is gel coating resin?
A gelcoat resin has different properties to a laminating resin. Generally speaking, therefore, a different type of resin or resin mixture is used for gelcoat than for building up laminate. Either a special, ready-to-use gelcoat resin is applied, or a laminating resin is used provided that additives (such as thixotropic agents or flexible mixing resins) are added. The main properties that a gelcoat resin must possess are rapid curing, a certain degree of elasticity and resistance to water, chemicals and weathering.
