Silica filter | What is a silica filter?
The silica filter is a filter capable of removing the finest particles from the water. So-called coarse filters, which use gravel or plastic sponges, can only be effective when used in conjunction with flocculants (such as aluminium sulphate). These flocculants are stirred into the water and cause the fine, cloud-forming particles to clump together into larger lumps, so that they can be collected. Unfortunately, this is not always entirely successful, meaning that crystal-clear water can only be achieved using diatomaceous earth filters. Diatomaceous earth is the finest filter material capable of trapping very fine particles that cause cloudiness.
